Type Locality and Naming

The naming section is located at Sanjiaogou, Lushi County, Henan. Named by the Fourth Geological Party, Henan Bureau of Geology in 1979.

Synonym: Dayuzu Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Lower part is brownish red mudstone and conglomerate with thin-bedded marlstone. Middle part is grayish white, grayish yellow and grayish red marlstone with grayish green shale. Upper part is loose, brownish red conglomerate, with a clay bed. The total thickness is ~800 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

This formation is conformably underlain by the Middle Eocene Chugouyu Fm.

Upper contact

This formation is overlain mostly by the Neogene. Regionally, the next younger unit is the Baode Fm (or the Dongshapo Fm in nearby Henan?)
